Refract’s survival racing game Distance will be available on Early Access this fall. The spiritual successor to the hit student game Nitronic Rush, released on PC in 2011, Distance fuses the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of a mysterious world.
Over the past two years of development we’ve been iterating on the game based on feedback from our Kickstarter backers, and in August 2014 we released a private beta to over 6,000 players. The beta currently features a short single player campaign alongside split-screen and online multiplayer modes such as Sprint, Reverse Tag, Stunt, and Soccer. It also includes a powerful level editor which is connected to Steam Workshop.
Following our showing with Indie MEGABOOTH at PAX Prime 2014, we announced that we’ve decided to use Steam Early Access as the next step in our development. Distance will be available on Early Access this fall for Windows, Mac, and Linux (date to be announced). You can pre-order the public beta (Early Access) release of Distance and get instant access to behind-the-scenes updates at: http://survivethedistance.com.
“After completing our Kickstarter at the end of 2012, REACTOR came at just the right time. As our team was expanding our small apartment office wasn’t going to cut it anymore, and the REACTOR program really helped to keep us moving forward. WIN has always done an incredible job of unlocking the developer talent and wisdom found in the Seattle area and making it available to those in need. From watching archived developer panels on the WIN website to eventually participating in REACTOR, WIN has continued to provide tremendous help for our company.” – Jordan Hemenway, Founder and Developer, Refract Studios
