The Economic Development Council of Seattle and King County (EDC), formerly known as enterpriseSeattle, put on the 41st Annual Economic Forecast Conference at the Washington State Convention Center, exclaiming, “This Way to the Future!” The conference was all about technology and innovation in our region and what 2013 might look like. Incoming governor, Jay Inslee also made a special appearance to speak about his plans to tighten the relationship between educational institutions and industries…that sounds a lot like Washington Interactive Network’s Education Alliance meetings. 🙂
We showed up in full force with some Games Industry veterans to help us rep our sector. We also brought some Freak’n Geniuses to show off their Kinect-based animation gear. Engaging a room full of business people, economists, and politicians in animating characters with their bodies may have been a tall order, but they survived! *Claps*
Turns out that there’s hope on the horizon for our economy. The 3 forecasters all agreed that it’s not going to get worse! (Don’t worry, we didn’t think economists agreed on anything either). Also, 2013 should be a great year in technology as the sector grows and grows, helping give all of us tech-lovers jobs.
One major highlight of the day was Claude Comair, founder of DigiPen Institute of Technology, being honored as a 2013 Economic Development Champion! This was a huge nod to the Interactive Media Industry and we congratulate Mr. Comair for all of his successes.
